Tips For a Better Kodi Experience

Kodi is a great streamer, but there are some add-one and tweaks that could make it the ultimate way to watch TV, sports and movies.  If you have downloaded Kodi and are considered tinkering with it then there are some tips that you should consider to help you get started.

Install Kodi On Another Device

While XMBC was great for computers, it is inconvenient to have to connect your computer to the TV every time you want to watch something on Kodi.  To overcome this you should look at downloading and installing Kodi onto a smaller device such as a Fire TV stick or Google Chromecast.  This will allow you to watch TV without having to connect your computer to the TV.  There are a number of guides that could help you with this.

Stop The Buffering

Constant buffering is the most annoying thing to happen with streaming, but Kodi does offer a way around this.  If you have inconsistent internet connections, you can reduce the quality of the Kodi stream which will result in buffering free streaming.  The picture quality will not be as clear, but you will not have to worry about inconvenient pauses.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

There are a number of keyboard shortcuts that Kodi supports which makes completing certain actions much faster.  Pressing P will start the stream and F will allow you to fast forward.  Pressing Control   S will capture a screenshot of the stream.  If you are a regular Kodi user you need to look at the shortcuts because they will make using the streamer easier.

Become A Kodi Expert

Kodi has been designed to be easy to use and there are a number of tweaks that you can do when you start.  However, if you have no experience with anything outside Apple or Windows ecosystems, you should put off add-ons for the time being.  Getting up to speed with Kodi is recommended before you even approach any of the add-ons that are available.

Set A Shutdown Timer

The Custom Shutdown Timer option is ideal for anyone who would like Kodi to automatically shut down after a specified amount of time.  To set this option, you will need to click the power button in the lower left-hand side of the home screen then select the option.  You can then activate the timer by adding the duration in minutes.  If you change your mind you can cancel this through the same option.

Change The Skins

While Kodi looks great in the standard form, there are other customized skins you can use.  If you want to change the UI to a new one it is very easy to do.  There are some quick tutorials that will help with this.

Get Add-Ons

Kodi is compatible with a range of different add-ons which will make it even better.  There is an add-on for people who like music, one for live sport and one for documentaries.  It is possible to find lists of the add-ons available and what they are going to do for you.

Enable Weather Stats

It is possible to keep up to date with the weather on Kodi through enabling the weather stats in the settings menu.  To enable the stats you will need to go to systems then settings and the weather.  You can then add a service for the weather information.  It is important to note that there are no default services integrated with Kodi so you will have to select the get more options setting to download a service.
